NATIONAL THEATRE HOSTS MEMORABLE MOTHER’S DAY CONCERT PARTY
The National Theatre of Ghana came alive with excitement, music, and cultural celebration on 10th May 2026 as it hosted a memorable Mother’s Day Special Concert Party in collaboration with Media General and Onua TV.
The event brought together mothers, families, entertainment lovers, stakeholders in the creative arts industry, SHS students and distinguished guests including the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon Abla Dzifa Gomashie to celebrate mothers for their love, sacrifices, and invaluable contributions to society.
The programme also formed part of a government initiative under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to revive Ghana’s cherished Concert Party tradition, a platform that once played a significant role in promoting local theatre, music, comedy, and cultural storytelling while creating employment opportunities for many Ghanaian artistes.
Patrons enjoyed a variety of family-oriented activities including photo sessions, pedicure and manicure experiences, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for mothers and their loved ones. As the evening progressed, the Concert Party segment took centre stage with thrilling performances featuring music, comedy, drama, and cultural displays that reflected Ghana’s rich artistic heritage.
A major highlight of the evening was the outstanding performances by celebrated gospel artistes Celestine Donkor and Philipa Baafi, whose inspiring songs energized the audience and created moments of worship, joy, and celebration. Patrons were also refreshed with assorted beverages while mothers and selected guests received gift items as part of the celebration. The gift items were sponsored by Promasidor, Twellium Industrial, and Accra Brewery PLC.
Another touching moment was the special “Onua Showtime with Nana Ama McBrown” segment, where mothers were honoured and celebrated for their dedication and resilience. Emotional and inspiring stories shared by participants created memorable moments that resonated deeply with the audience.
Management of the National Theatre of Ghana expressed appreciation to Media General and Onua TV for the successful collaboration and reaffirmed the Theatre’s commitment to promoting Ghanaian arts and culture through impactful programmes and partnerships.
The successful event once again demonstrated the power of arts and culture in bringing people together and preserving Ghana’s cultural identity. The Theatre therefore called on corporate organizations’, institutions, philanthropists, and the general public to support and sponsor future editions of the Concert Party revival initiative to sustain the growth of Ghana’s creative arts industry and cultural tour.

ROOTS & RESONANCE: GHANAIAN TRADITIONS IN GLOBAL CONVERSATION
The National Theatre of Ghana collaborates with International Artists for a Celebration of Music and Culture
Accra, Ghana – July 20th, 2026 – The African Chamber Music Ensemble (ACME), in partnership with the National Theatre of Ghana and the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, presents Roots & Resonance: Ghanaian Traditions in Global Conversation — an inspiring evening of music, culture, and international collaboration.
Led by Canadian percussionist, composer, and ethnomusicologist Dr. Curtis Andrews, the performance brings together celebrated artists from Ghana, Canada, and Zimbabwe, including Ghanaian scholar and performer Dr. Kofi J. S. Gbolonyo, Zimbabwean mbira musician Kurai Blessing Mubaiwa, Canadian string musicians Meredith Bates, Josh Zubot, and Peggy Lee, and Ghanaian violist Bright Edem Afenya of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ghana.
The concert will explore Ghanaian vocal, percussion, and storytelling traditions alongside Zimbabwean mbira music and contemporary chamber music arrangements, creating a unique dialogue between African traditions and global artistic expressions.
The performance will feature guest appearances by traditional musicians and singers from Alewogbe Habobo, Dzogadze in Ghana’s Volta Region, highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating indigenous cultural knowledge.
Roots & Resonance forms part of ACME’s Ghana tour and reflects a strong partnership between cultural institutions dedicated to artistic excellence, education, and cultural exchange.
The organizers invite members of the diplomatic community, cultural leaders, educators, students, artists, media practitioners, and the general public to experience this remarkable celebration of heritage and creativity.
The project is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council.
